Remedial Massage
There are many advanced techniques for pain relief and tissue therapy and joint problems.
These will be personalised, for your specific areas of concern.
There will be pre-assessment of various aspects of structure, balance and function.
Likewise there will be re-assessments at various intervals, of structure, balance and function
The results of these re-assessments will inform the decisions about what needs to be worked on next. This is a dynamic process.
Remedial work is focussed on your problem areas, but is also likely to include work on the actual root-causes of your problems - which may be in a different locations.
This includes the remedial techniques using the many different types of reflexes derived from Feldenkrais and Ortho-bionomy as well as Muscle Energy Technique (MET) and Cranio-Sacral Therapy (CST) in its several forms.
NOTE: The word reflexes (above) does not refer to the discipline known as Reflexology which involves sometimes strong and painful pressure on targeted points of the feet, hands and elsewhere on the body.
I studied reflexology as part of my diploma - and I no longer use the traditional form of it.
Likewise: Deep Tissue Massage (DTM) - which uses forceful pressure on the soft tissues (muscles tendons, ligaments and fascia - is deprecated in most cases - see next paragraph.
I have formed the view that - where rehabilitation is the goal, due to accident, injury or otherwise-beneficial surgery (typically scar tissue is the problem) - some therapeutic value may be gained via painful means. But generally, pain is counterproductive because it results in a contractile response by the nervous system, which is against relaxation. Relaxation which assists in gaining better muscle tone or improved freedom of movement in joints such as the ankle, knee, hip, Sacrum, spine and neck.
Not to mention the plates of the skull/cranium which are the focus of the Perrin Technique and Cranio-Sacral methods.
As an aside: I will never tell you: No pain, no gain !
Neurobiological Insights
Explore transformative aspects of neurobiology to enhance your mental and physical well-being.
This can encompass how to develop new habits, or re-develop forgotten habits (postural or not).
For example, this might involve the re-development of improved habits of breathing, resulting in better upright posture and consequently reduced loading on your musculo-skeletal system and consequently more energy for life!.
Some of the techniques of this section are implicit in the Remedial Section. There is some overlap.
For example, the use of reflex methods of ortho-bionomy and Feldenkrais and Cranio-sacral methods.
Diaphragm-breathing is commonly not working well in many people; further, chest breathing is often hampered by contracted intercostal (between the ribs) muscles which largely perform breathing in, and out; the neck muscles are likewise vital aspects of the breath - they aid in elevating the sternum of the chest, for example. These sorts of problems result in shallow breathing and generalised under-performance of your body.
Habit:
The role of habit, and how to evolve yourself past it, is fundamental to postural improvement and is part of vital self-care. The role of mental/emotional factors is likewise fundamental to posture, and other aspects of life-in-the-body.
Volitional Release (VR123)
Volitional Release (VR123) is an innovative protocol - developed by Stuart Young.
You will be empowered to use it in any therapeutic situation - and in vital self care.
That is - you will be able to use it to magnify the effectiveness of any type of therapy - as well as using it in vital self-care.
There are three levels of the VR protocol: VR1, VR2 and VR3.
VR123 involves using an easily understood process involving some fundamental insights into how it is that choices, now made at the conscious level (of volition), can be brought into effective use for releasing what are usually subconsciously held:
Physical tensions in body tissues. (I just can not relax!)
Historical decisions (remembered or even forgotten events) which may be blocking your intrinsic self-healing processes.
Stressors are not the problem, it is usually the (emotional) decision about them that is the problem. That decision, or reaction, creates the stress, as unwanted freight.
Emotional states, memories and even trauma which seem to be beyond conscious repair.
And finally, you will be able to use your VR123 skills in Vital Self-Care at home.
And the new therapy unique to Breeze ...
The Perrin Technique - for Long Covid, FMS, CFS and other post-viral conditions
The Perrin Technique is a research-backed UK protocol - (that was the topic of his PhD) - for the beneficial treatment of many types of post viral conditions, such as:
Long Covid, Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS),Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) etc.
It was developed by Dr Raymond Perrin, a British Osteopath.
It is, however, not completely new.
The most fundamental part of his technique is known in Australia as Manual Lymphatic Drainage (MLD).
MLD has been commonly used world-wide, but particularly in Europe, to treat post operative lymph problems arising when lymph nodes have been removed, but is also useful in treating many other difficult conditions.
It has a self-care component, done at home, which further facilitates your wellness program.
It works by supporting your own natural immune response.
The specific Perrin Technique includes both:
Therapy done in clinic...
Instruction in vital Self-Care at home.
Stuart Young is trained in MLD and has studied Perrin's professional Manual, intended for osteopaths and physiotherapists, and together with the procedures recommended by Dr Perrin, you can be confident to try the Technique at Breeze.
Perrin-type MLD treatments are very gentle, and of quite short duration. Typically around 20-30 minutes.
And a new technique from the UK...
